Natural Motion has announced the details of the “patch” for disappointing Backbreaker Football. Well, patch may not due justice to what the developers have done to improve, if not recreate this title.
They have addressed nearly every concern voiced in forums and chat rooms across the internet. From camera angles, AI, playbooks options and animations glitches. All of the aforementioned categories have received attention in the update. The project is called “Greathouse” and it shows an impressive level of passion, dedication and service to Backbreaker’s followers and fans. This patch is the type of thing that creates cult followings, like that of NFL 2K5.
I for one was very excited about the release of this title as it represented competition and new blood in the virtual football arena. I, like many others was a little disappointed at what seemed to be the final product. In this area of patches and updates, you have to wait about 4 months before you see the “real” final product. Even in such an age, Backbreaker’s patch potentially sets a new standard in what a developer can alter, post release.
It’s refreshing, but also a little worrisome. This may encourage a trend of releasing our favorite sports titles half-baked, with developers falling back on a “well, we’ll just fix it with a patch approach.” Nonetheless, the details of the patch are awesome and re-injects excitement back into this title.
